Winemaker Notes

The siren is screaming at the searchlights. This well appointed library is no shelter, but what better place await the edge of the world than here. A humidor well stocked with Cohiba Siglos and a decanter of rare Alpine kirsch shares the buffet with a glass bowl of ripe red currants, wild blueberries and raspberries. A bomb hits the coffee roaster across the street, ripping the heavy earth and tearing the bay laurel in the yard. Let it come, let it come you think as you light a cigar.Blend: 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Cabernet Franc, 26% Petit Verdot, 7% Merlot, 4% Malbec

Critical Acclaim

Deep ruby. Displays ripe, smoke-tinged cherry, incense and licorice aromas, with woodsmoke, espresso and pipe tobacco overtones. Juicy, palate-staining dark fruit preserve and bitter cherry flavors show impressive depth as well as vivacity, picking up a suave floral pastille nuance with air. Dusty, fine-grained tannins build steadily on an impressively long, smoke- and spice-accented finish that shows excellent focus and gentle grip.

Jeb Dunnuck

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot, the 2015 Sackcloth and Ashes is a straight up delicious red that's loaded with notions of cassis, incense, peppery herbs and hints of lead pencil. Medium to full-bodied, polished, elegant and with tons of fruit, drink this sexy, yet elegant 2015 over the coming 7-8 years.

Resembling a fine red wine from the Medoc, the well-built 2015 Desparada Sackcloth & Ashes Red Blend is stocked well with aromas and flavors of black fruits, savory herbs, and dusty chalk. The wine's stylish structure pairs it nicely with seared hangar steak. (Tasted: April 17, 2017, San Francisco, CA)
